Q) Why Should I resurface my bathtub?
A) Many customers resurface their bathtubs to change the color.
However the majority resurface their bathtubs because their tub has lost the
original finish and the bathtub has become dull and difficult to
clean.
The reason for this is that, over the years, all of the cleaning and water
running over the tub has worn away the original finish and the tub has become
porous. All of the dirt, grime and hard water stains get trapped inside the
pores. This results in you having to use abrasive cleaners and a lot of
scrubbing, this only wears away the finish further.
BathCoat replaces this old finish
restoring it to a beautiful smooth luster, the result is your bathtub or shower will look better, last longer, and clean
much easier.
Q) Why not just buy a bathtub for
$500+
A) One must consider the
plumbing, tub wall enclosure, the flooring, and the logistics of removing the
bathtub from the house. Often times the door jams need to be removed and in some
cases, even walls. New bath renovations can easily run into the $1000's ,
with BatCoat you can save about 80% versus replacing.
Q) Is this a liner system?
A) NO! We never use liners, BathCoat removes your old surface
and spays a new permanent surface on. Problems with liners can be cost,
cracking, trapped water between surfaces, soft spots, mold & mildew
problems, plumbing problems and very difficult to repair or replace.
Q) Will BathCoat stop tile mildew?
A) The BathCoat system seals grout lines that are a favorite
place for mold and mildew to collect virtually eliminating it.
Q) What is the new finish?
A) The finish that we apply is called aliphatic acrylic
polyurethane provides amazing resilience to cracking during expansion and
contraction due to temperature fluctuations. Unlike epoxy topcoats, Poly-Glass
will not crack or yellow over time. Poly-Glass resin provides a surface that is
harder than acrylic or enamel, yet flexible enough to withstand the impact of
dropped objects. This resilience is essential to its durability and long wear.
It also provides terrific stain resistance and color retention, as compared to
other types of bathtub coatings.
Other
resurfacing companies may call their product something unique or special, but
the reality is that all of the top resurfacing companies will be using this
finish. If they are not then they will be using an inferior product or skip steps
to
cut costs. This causes problems because these
products will not hold up over time. You should make sure that whoever you
choose to perform your resurfacing is using a high quality 2-part urethane and
also that they have a 4 step process (cleaning, etching, priming & finish
coat, a skipped step will result in costly repairs in the short haul).
Q) How long does it usually take to refinish a tub?
A) Most resurfacing can be completed in approximately 4 hours.
In most cases the bathtub can be used 4 hours after completion.
Q) My fiberglass/acrylic tub has a large crack in it. Is it ruined or
can you fix it?
A) Most tubs are not ruined and we
can provide a permanent solution to cracked fiberglass, plastic and acrylic
fixture bottoms.
Q) I heard when a tub is redone, it gives off an odor?
A) Newly refinished tubs can give off a solvent-type odor for a
short time. We vent these odors outside the home with a high end fume exhauster
and add a pleasant smelling scent to the re-surfacing material.
Q) Can my laminate countertops be refinished?
A) Yes, with no messy tear out or plumbing removal. This can be
done in a solid color or corian granite-type finish. Most customers realize a
savings of 50-70% over new.
Q) My ceramic tile color is really dated. Can it be re-colored?
A) Yes. The same long lasting finish can be used on your tile.
Q) Do you change any of the plumbing fixtures?
A) We install new drain covers and overflow caps.
Q) Is it possible to re-glaze a fiberglass tub/shower enclosure?
A) Yes. Fiberglass or acrylic tubs require a different type of
etching process but once completed are just as durable as regular bathtubs.
Q) How long will the new finish last?
A) As with any surface, it will eventually wear away. We
provide a 5 year guarantee. You should expect between 10 - 20 years of use
before the tub would need to be touched up or redone.
Q) What is the process?
A) We first remove all caulking and make sure the bathtub is
completely clean, next we sand and chemically etching the surface removing the
old surface coat. This
will allow the new surface to penetrate and bond into the old surface. We then fill
repair chips and imperfections and clean and dry the surface again. |
